The DV Bryant Trust is one of the longest-running philanthropic trusts in the Waikato.

The Trust was established in 1960 but its origins stretch back to 1924 when Waikato farmer Daniel Vickery Bryant (1882–1962) opened the Bryant Convalescent Home for Children in Raglan.

Several other successful social service ventures followed. Today the Bryant Retreat for Women is the only service the Trust provides directly. The bulk of its work is as a grant maker.

Dan Bryant was a man of faith

He stipulated that his biographer especially note a ‘special clause’ in the Bryant House Trust's Deed of Gift - “...the Donor is desirous of declaring that he disclaims all credit for the foundation of this Trust the institution of which he attributes to the over-ruling guidance of Almighty God”.

Governance

A board of twelve trustees governs the Trust. Board members include descendants of Dan Bryant, appointments by the Anglican, Methodist and Presbyterian churches and several co-opted trustees.
